Cape Meares First Day Hike - Jan. 1, 2020

Join us for our first hike of the new year and create your own ranger guided experience. The hike will start with an easy quarter mile trail to the octopus tree that is accessible for all users. From this point visitors looking for a longer hike continue on through the old growth Sitka spruce forest to the junction with Lighthouse Road, the Big Spruce trail, and the Oregon Coast Trail. From here you may turn back or continue to the Big Spruce Tree, the largest Sitka spruce in Oregon. If you are still looking for more you can continue north on the Oregon Coast Trail 1 mile downhill to the beach at the base of Cape Meares. Visitors will learn about local lighthouse history, World War II history, get the chance to watch for migrating grey whales, and have a ranger to answer any other questions about the area you are interested in.
