First Day Hike at Oswald West State Park

Oswald West State Park

Join us for a First Day Hike with a Park Ranger and a guest from the North Coast Land Conservancy at Oswald West State Park, explore the old growth forest, and discover the natural and cultural history of the oldest State Park on the North Oregon Coast. We will also be celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Cape Falcon Marine Reserve.

Park staff will arrive 15 minutes early and depart 5 minutes after the begin time, providing instructions and additional information. After the hike, visitors are invited to return to the parking lot via the main trail or continue recreating at Short Sand Beach. Park ranger will remain at the parking lot for 30 minutes, providing hot chocolate to guests, with cupcakes being provided by guest partner.

Estimated End Time: 12:00 PM

Meeting Location: Oswald West State Park; Main Parking Lot, Meeting at the Kiosk near the Short Sand Trailhead.

Trail/Hike Length, Terrain, Difficulty Considerations: One mile walk through the forest, over easy terrain, gradual elevation loss, with little elevation gain on the self-guided return to the parking lot. Hiking shoes or boots, rain coat, warm clothing, water, snacks are suggested.

Accessibility Considerations: Path is compacted gravel, not fully paved. Trail has root intrusion and potholes.

Restrictions: No dogs or pets
