First Day Hike at LaPine State Park

LaPine State Park

Come and join us for a ranger-led First Day Hike at LaPine State Park to see the largest ponderosa pine in the world and discover a beautiful winter landscape. Along the way we’ll talk about the local flora and fauna present in the colder winter months.

This will be a 1.5 mile round trip hike to see Big Tree, the largest Ponderosa Pine in the world. Please dress for the weather with warm layers and warm, waterproof hiking shoes. Snowshoes or traction devices are strongly recommended.

Trail conditions may vary depending on weather. Snow and ice expected.

When: Thursday, January 1st 2026, 10:00am – 12:00pm

  • Staff will arrive 15 minutes early and depart 5–10 minutes after the posted start time.

Where: Meet at Cougar Woods day-use parking area

  • Parking is limited, carpooling is recommended when possible
